Gear Review #001

Geekoto 77in Tripod

I recently got the Geekoto 77inch Tripod, and I am pretty elated with it so far.

You can check it out on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/2L8Qzjz

Price wise, you’re looking at around $79 dollars right now. It’s on sale!

I honestly think it is worth every penny. I spent so many years grabbing up cheap Target tripods when I needed one and I honestly should have just gotten a quality tripod year one. Here’s a Nick tip: If you find yourself needing to save a dollar, do it somewhere else in your budget and get a good tripod.

The overall design of the tripod itself is pretty straightforward. Ball head swiveling goodness. Portrait slot to secure your camera in place. Fast and easy to adjust. Aluminum body.

Weight wise, it’s sturdy but not overly heavy. I can carry it around all day by hand and not really notice it in my hand. I’ve set it up in some pretty good gusts of wind and didn’t notice any camera shake in the image.

You can also invert the tripod to get some really close to the ground compositions without needing to be a yoga guru. Very appreciated for a person as flexible as me.

One cool feature is the option to remove a leg and have a monopod. I haven’t used this yet, but if sports photography is something you do, or you want to be able to move around a scene quickly, this is a great feature.

The tripod itself is marketed as a cinematography tripod and features some smooth panning due to the one adjustment knob below the swivel head.

Color wise, it’s a like a semi gloss matte-ish orange and black. I think it’s sharp. Really though, I could care less about color, but that’s just me.

Three locks per leg. Dense plastic, but I haven’t had them loosen up on me while in the field.

Overall, I recommend this tripod. Yes, there are some cheaper options, and there are obviously more highly priced options, but this seems to be a sweet spot and a pretty sweet product overall.

Here’s a few quick photographs of the tripod and I will list the overall dimensions at the bottom of the post.
